Several Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players have been shut out due to a flaw that requires them to first purchase Modern Warfare 2, even if they already possess it.

According to player reports, the glitch seems to have appeared as developer Infinity Ward was administering a patch for another issue with the free-to-play game - Call of Duty: Warzone 2, since even gamers who had spent hours of playtime were locked out.

There is no known remedy to the problem as of yet, and neither Infinity Ward nor publisher Activision Blizzard has recognized it.

Purchasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is likewise ineffective, as users who have bought the game since its October release are similarly shut out.

While the two games share a launcher, Warzone 2 is a stand-alone experience that should not require any further purchases to properly enjoy.

Players are reporting that they played Call of Duty: Warzone 2 matches with no difficulty.

Now, when they try to play the game, they get the 'Purchase Modern Warfare II to gain access to everything' page when they select 'Battle Royale Solos.
