In a response to UK regulator CMA, Sony have stated that Microsoft offered to keep the Call of Duty franchise on PlayStation until 2027.
Today, UK regulator Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released Sony's official response to CMA's previous statements regarding the proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft .
The document from Sony is packed with juicy details across 22 pages as the Japanese tech giant try to convince CMA to block the deal.
In one part of the document, Sony strongly state that Microsoft have not made any commitments to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation and PlayStation Plus.
Sony say that Microsoft have offered to continue making Activision's games available on PlayStation only until 2027.
"In public comments just on October 26, Microsoft said it plans to offer Call of Duty on PlayStation as long as that makes sense.
A period until 2027 - or some other (possibly shorter) time that Microsoft unilaterally determines makes sense to Microsoft - is badly inadequate," Sony state in the document.
The publisher adds that this would mean they would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles by the time they launched PlayStation 6, which would make them "extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness".
According to Sony, the only way to protect consumers, and independent developers and preserve robust competition is to ensure that Activision remains independently owned and controlled.
Activision It's all about Call of Duty in Sony's response, which is not surprising given the game's popularity Sony also argue that Call of Duty is not replicable and other publishers don't have the resources or expertise to make such a game.
All in all, it's more of the same from Sony who been pretty much the only gaming company to oppose this deal.
