Sony to regulators: Call of Duty is irreplaceable, we can't make a game like that

Sony say that none of their studios can make such a big title as Call of Duty, which requires a large budget and thousands of developers.

Sony have officially voiced their opinion on the Microsoft Activision-Blizzard acquisition.

The Japanese publisher talked to Brazilian regulators, who are one of the 20 regulators in the world that need to approve the deal before Microsoft can officially acquire Activision Blizzard .

Sony said that there are only a few developers in the world that are capable of creating a game like Call of Duty , reemphasising the importance of keeping Call of Duty on the PlayStation platform.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest sources of revenue from third parties for Sony.

Sony state that even those who have the resources to create such games, like EA , Take-Two and Epic Games , wouldn't be able to rival Call of Duty, due to the game's popularity and large fan base.

Sony's data shows that Call of Duty is a unique franchise that is simply irreplaceable.

Xbox Game Pass also seems to be a concern for Sony, who say that it may take them years to reach to create a proper rival service for Game Pass.

Activision/Xbox Even if it never becomes an Xbox ecosystem exclusive, Call of Duty on Game Pass would be a huge deal for Xbox The company recently introduced a brand new PlayStation Plus service , to compete with Xbox Game Pass but it seems like even Sony are aware they have a long way to go before they can be a true competitor to Xbox's subscription service.

They talked about how Game Pass is seeing significant growth over the past five years and now captures approximately 60-70 per cent of the global subscription service market.

Sony are not the only publisher and tech company that offered their thoughts on the Microsoft Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Amazon , Google, Bandai Namco , Apple, Ubisoft and many other also talked to Brazilian regulators but they didn't seem to have any negative comments.

Sony were basically the only publisher that seemed concerned with the acquisition, which isn't surprising, given that they see Xbox as their main rival on the market. DON'T MISS Source: ResetEra
